猛犸象复原图

发现自西伯利亚的猛玛象化石

  来自俄罗斯萨哈共和国猛玛象博物馆和日本近畿大学的研究团队看到了克隆猛玛象的希望。

  他们在西伯利亚的永久冻土中发现了保存完好的猛玛象股骨髓质,两国研究者计划在明年全面开展克隆猛玛象的联合工作。通过移除现生大象卵细胞中的细胞核,并将来自此次发现的髓质细胞核移植进去,就可以培育出带有猛玛象DNA的胚胎。之后,将胚胎移植入现生大象的子宫中进行培养,就可以获得猛玛象小宝宝。现生大象与猛玛象极近的亲缘关系使得克隆研究成为可能。

  含未被破坏基因的细胞核是细胞核移植技术(nucleus transplantation technique)关键。猛玛象灭绝于1万年前,而早在上世纪90年代,众多科学家就开始为了尝试克隆猛玛象而寻找完整猛玛象基因,直到今年8月份这块来自西伯利亚的猛玛象股骨的发现,人们才看到了克隆的可能性。而正是全球气候变暖导致俄罗斯东部的永久冻土开始融化,才使人们发现了这一化石。
